SJS Basketball Team Gearing up for Tournament

After two weeks of tryouts, the Saint John’s Seminary basketball team held its first all-team practice on Monday night, October 30. The team has been invited to participate in the 18th Annual Father Pat O’Malley Invitational Basketball Tournament being held in January at the University of Saint Mary of the Lake/Mundelein Seminary in Illinois.

I too am looking forward to accompanying our team to Chicago to enjoy the fraternity of seminarians throughout the United States and to represent our beloved Saint John’s Seminary!

“We’re in it to win,” said coach and team captain Peter Schirripa (First Pre-Theology, Boston), “but most of all to build fraternity with the men at Saint John’s and to have some fun with brother seminarians from across the country at the tournament in January.”

Monsignor James P. Moroney, a priest of the Diocese of Worcester for forty four years, is Pastor of Saint Cecilia Parish in Leominster. He served for many years as Executive Director of the USCCB Secretariat for Divine Worship in Washington D.C., as Rector of Saint John's Seminary in Boston, and as Pastor of Mary Queen of the Rosary Parish in Spencer and as Rector of Saint Paul's Cathedral in Worcester. Pope Saint John Paul II and Pope Benedict both appointed him as a Consultor to the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments in Rome and as Executive Director of the Vox Clara Committee. He is author of THE MASS EXPLAINED (Catholic Book Publishing) which is being published in its third edition this Spring.
