Choices...


Thursday after Ash Wednesday

Sometimes life seems so complicated. All the choices, all the decisions and all the decisions we have to make.

But then, as we begin our Lenten journey, Moses reminds us that what often seems to complicated in really quite simple. Starkly simple. Choose God and you choose life. Choose the devil and you choose death. Life or death. Light or Darkness. Holiness or Sin. God or the devil.

The time I find such starkness to be the clearest and when I stand by the bed of someone who is about to die. All the distracting questions about money and power, advantage or accomplishment just seem to fade away. And in their place is the simple truth that the moment of death, like every moment of life, is about embracing the Cross of Jesus or running away.


And in the moments which God will give us in the next thirty-nine days, the choice is the same.
