Hung Hoa - Our Last Day in Vietnam

As our stay in this faith-filled country draws to a close, we drove to the Diocese of Hung Hoa this morning and celebrated Mass in English with auxiliary Bishop Alphonse Nguyen Huu Long and his very talented pre-seminarians. We were joined by Denise Daley, a graduate of our Theological Institute.

The Pre-seminarians were most impressive in their growing command of the English language and in my homily I suggested that while the Blessed Virgin Mary knew both fear and questioning, these experiences led her to the greatest act of faith ever uttered: "Let it be done to me according to your Word!" In the same way, seminarians experience fear and questioning, all of which is appropriate, provided it leads us to abandon our fears, let the Lord answer our questions and place our lives into his hands.

On the way home, joined by our four newly-ordained priests, we visited and placed burning incense at the burial place of seven of the Vietnamese Martyrs.

What a wonderful way to conclude our visit to this Holy and beautiful land.
